“I will keep and love my baby,” says raped 11-year-old girl

The world is applauding an 11-year-old girl, Belén, who was raped by her stepfather and said she will keep her child despite the tragic circumstances of her conception.
“…I am going to love her a lot, no matter what – even if she is from that man who hurt me.” said Belén

That man who hurt her, her stepfather is currently in jail awaiting trial.

Abortion advocates are making a fuss, and saying that Belén is too young to know the implications of her decision, or else is not being offered fair options (i.e., no one is offering to kill her baby) for her pregnancy.

They would rather see Belén as a young woman who is the mother of a dead baby than as a young woman who bravely yet happily faced the joys and hardships that accompany being a mother at her young age. Perhaps Belén recognizes that in the end, the joy of a new life outweighs and outlives the sorrow of how it came to be.

Belén received praise and encouragement from the president of her country, Sebastian Pinera. Belén surprised all with words that demonstrated depth and maturity when she said that despite the pain that the man who had raped her had caused, she was going to love and care for her newborn.

Although abortion advocates decry lack of access to abortion in countries like Chile  citing danger to the mother’s life, they say Belén should abort, yet  they fail to recognize that Chile actually put  women first.  This  is how  Pinera explained it during his address, “Chile’s first concern is the life of the mother,” he said, “when Belén’s pregnancy reaches 22 weeks, that is, eight weeks from now, if it is necessary a doctor will induce a premature birth  in accordance with her care, because in our country the life of the mother always comes first.”

  1. She’s not a young woman, she’s a child and it’s beyond appalling that so many vultures are circling this child’s body and using her tragic situation for their own political purposes. You should be ashamed.

    • @bodycrimes, i do agree with you that rape is a crime against the the dignity of a woman, worst still when it;s on a child , rather than commit another crime on the body of an innocent child. I think the rapist should be arrested and dwelt with according to the law. I think Belén, though 11 years has the wisdom of wise person, she realizes that her child is a child not minding how she came about and the heroic thing she can do is to keep the child.
i am very proud of Belen, i wish there were many women like her who could take right decisions such as hers.

  2. whats with you and the body of the child. is her body radically different from that of a normal human being. that she cannot give birth at age 11? i do not and will not feel ashamed for defending and preserving life

    • First of all, the body of an 11-year-old is very different from that of a grown woman. Children who give birth can suffer internal ruptures and can even die. She doesn’t, anyway, have a choice about whether she wants to undergo birth or not, because in Chile she actually has no choice. So celebrating her ‘choice’ is like celebrating no choice at all. It’s disingenuous.

But that’s not the point. The point is that you do not know this girl. You do not know her circumstances. All you know is the very tiny amount that has been published in English since this all blew up. This is an absolutely tragic case involving not just rape, but an indifferent medical system and a neglectful mother. That’s it. That’s all anyone outside the people concerned actually know.

And the response of people like you? Despite your ignorance and lack of first hand knowledge, you feel free to wade in and use the body of a violated child that you personally know nothing about, to score political points.

What you are doing is vile. Absolutely vile.

  3. one must not be a genius to know that there exist differences between the body of a child and a grown up woman. The fact that young girls are prone to some complications it is not in doubt, but that does not mean that all young girls in the world die when they birth, since we know many give birth and survive. So why can’t belen be an exception. We can only know by giving her a try.
Abortion is a crime against two bodies, that of the woman and that of the child been killed and it can never be justified for what every reason.
The reason why I’am publishing this story is that there are many both young girls and mature women who get pregnant but do not want to abort their children but have to do so because their family or society demands. but when their family and society supports them they are happy to bring a new life into the world.
This story of belen is to tell them to give the unborn the chance to live and not to commit a crime against the body of another.
